Watford is said to have signed a standard, non-guaranteed NBA contract similar to Darius Basley’s. After graduating from LSU (Louisiana State University), he challenged for the 2021 NBA draft, but after being undrafted, he played for the Portland Trail Blazers.
With a solid physique of 6 feet 9 inches (206 cm) and 240 pounds (108 kg), Watford plays an active role as a big wing resource. He played in 62 games (12 starts) in the regular league in the 2022-23 season and averaged 7.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists with a 56% field goal success rate (5.2 attempts) and a 3-point success rate of 39.1% (1 attempt).
Skilled at finishing under the net through the post-up, he showed improvement in the outside shot last season. So his acquisition could add size to Brooklyn’s roster and appears to be a team effort to improve their perimeter shot after losing shooters like Joe Harris, Seth Curry and Patty Mills.
Meanwhile, right after the announcement of his contract, Watford expressed joy on personal SNS, saying, “Let’s do that,” and Portland teammates Damian Lillard and Anfernee Simons congratulated him on his transfer.
