Doosan swept the three-game series against Hanwha to improve to 27 wins, one draw and 24 losses on the season. It was the second sweep for Lee Seung-yeop-ho’s side, following a win over KIA in Jamsil from 12-14 December. Hanwha, on the other hand, dropped to 19 wins, three draws and 32 losses.

The home team lined up in the following order: Jeong Soo-bin (centre fielder), Kim Dae-kim (right fielder), Yang Ji (catcher), Yang Seok-hwan (first baseman), Kim Jae-hwan (designated hitter), Heo Kyung-min (third baseman), Hong Sung-ho (left fielder), Kim Jae-ho (shortstop) and Lee Yoo-chan (second baseman). Hong Sung-ho was named in the starting line-up on the first day of the season.

Hanwha countered with Moon Hyun-bin (centre fielder), Jeong Jeong-won (second baseman), Noh Si-hwan (third baseman), Chae Eun-sung (designated hitter), Kim In-hwan (first baseman), Lee Jin-young (right fielder), Jang Jin-hyuk (left fielder), Park Sang-un (catcher) and Lee Do-yoon (shortstop).

Doosan opened the scoring in the second inning. Yang Seok-hwan led off with a grounder to third, took advantage of a throwing error by third baseman Noh Si-hwan to reach first and second before Kim Jae-hwan singled to left. Heo Kyung-min flied out to centre field on the first pitch, but Hong Sung-ho broke the 0-0 tie with a single to right. It was Hong’s first hit in his debut. It would also be his final hit of the day.

In the third inning, Jeong Soo-bin led off with a double and Kim Dae-yi singled to left to put runners on first and third with no outs. Yang Ji calmly hit a sacrifice fly to left field to widen the gap.

The Hanwha batting line-up completely failed to capitalise on Doosan ace Alcantara. From the first to the eighth inning, not a single runner reached second base. The only hits came from Jeong Eun-won in the first inning and Jang Jin-hyuk in the fifth.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the ninth, Hanwha loaded the bases with consecutive singles by Kim Tae-yeon, Moon Hyun-bin, and Jeong Eun-won, but only managed to score one run on Noh Si-hwan’s single.

Doosan starter Raul Alcantara pitched eight innings of two-hit ball, struck out 10, walked none and threw 107 pitches for his seventh win of the season. He was followed by Gun-hee Hong and Chi-Kook Park. At the plate, Hong Sung-ho, making his first start of the season, had a multi-hit performance, including the game-winning hit.

Meanwhile, Hanwha starter Kim Min-woo suffered his sixth loss of the season (one win) after giving up two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts in five innings. He is winless in his last five games. The bats were held to five hits and no runs off Doosan’s mound.

Doosan begins a three-game weekend series at home against KIA on the 9th. Hanwha welcomes LG at home.
