Rafael Nadal (14th, Spain), suffering from an injury, announced that he would not attend the Italian Open of the men’s professional tennis (ATP) tour to be held next week.
On the 6th (Korean time), Nadal announced his absence directly through his SNS, saying, “I am very sorry to announce that I will not be able to play for Roma.”스포츠토토
Nadal, who suffered a hip injury after dropping out in the second round of the Australian Open singles held in January this year, has been unable to participate in subsequent tours as the injury has been prolonged.
He started the clay court season where he showed his greatest strength, but his return is delayed as his rehabilitation period is getting longer.
“I know how painful it is to miss another tournament that marked the end of my career with all the love and support of the Italian fans,” said Nadal.
Nadal is working on his rehabilitation with the goal of competing in his second major tournament of the year, the French Open.
“I’ve been feeling better in the last few days, but it’s been a while since I haven’t trained at a high level, so it takes time to adjust. Now I have no choice but to accept reality and keep training,” he explained.
If Novak Djokovic (1st place, Serbia) and Nadal, who hold the record for the most wins (22 times) in men’s singles at major tournaments, win the French Open, they will rise to the top spot in that category alone. The French Open kicks off on the 28th.
